In this demonstration, renowned artist Anatoly Shumkin will share his approach to painting the portrait from life. The focus will be on creating a lively portrait using a variety of paint applications and color choices. Recorded in front of an audience, Anatoly will answer questions through his intrepretor (LAAFA instructor and fellow St. Petersburg Academy Graduate Leon Okun) while sharing his influences and discussing his education. The objective for this short demonstration will be on establishing composition, value, and creating color harmony.
Anatoly Shumkin was born in Chimkent (Kazakhst an) in 1984. He attended junior art school before going to the Department of Graphic Design at Chimkent Art College. Since 2003 he has been living in St. Petersburg, Russia. In 2012 he graduated from the prestigious Russian Academy of Arts. He studied easel painting in the studio of V.S. Pesikov and under the guidance of teachers: N.N. Repin, N.S. Lysak and N.D. Blokhin. Anatoly's paintings are brilliantly executed psychological portraits and large narrative paintings in the style of the Old Masters.
